Report: Spurs offered Coutinho lifeline as midfielder makes transfer desire clear

Sport have provided Tottenham a potential lifeline in the chase for Philippe Coutinho after they revealed that the midfielder is yet to make a decision on his future despite heavy interest from Arsenal.

Tottenham were previously said to be interested in signing the midfielder on loan (Daily Mail) but it looks they have been overtaken by Arsenal in the race for the 27-year-old’s signature.

The Daily Express claimed that the Gunners are ready to shift their focus to completing a deal for the Barcelona star once they have concluded Willian’s transfer.

However, Sport have now revealed that there has been no progress in negotiations between Barcelona and Arsenal for Coutinho.

The report asserts that the midfielder will likely leave the Camp Nou this summer but has not made a decision on which club he is going to join.

In fact, it is suggested that the former Liverpool man will not decide on his future until Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign is over.

So it appears there is still plenty of time for Spurs to put together a move for Coutinho if they want to sign the Brazilian.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why some Spurs fans would be disappointed if we allowed Coutinho to join Arsenal. However, I do not think the Brazilian fits the profile of a typical Mourinho signing. I would also argue that we are not really in need of an attacking midfielder this summer. So, it would be a waste to splash big money on the Barca star when other areas of the squad are more in need of reinforcements.
