Report: Spurs offered midfielder to seven clubs late in the transfer window

According to a report in L’Equipe, Everton beat out a whole host of Ligue 1 sides to snap up Dele Alli from Tottenham on transfer deadline day.

Alli sealed a permanent move to Goodison Park on Monday where he will link up with new Toffees boss Frank Lampard.

According to The Telegraph, Everton will pay £10m to Spurs for the midfielder after he has made 20 appearances for them.

However, other sources suggest that there are plenty of add-ons in the agreement that could take the fee to as high as £33m (Fabrizio Romano).

L’Equipe have now revealed that Tottenham were so desperate to offload Alli that they offered the midfielder to as many as seven clubs in France towards the end of the window.

It is alleged that Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Rennes, Nice and Monaco were all approached regarding the midfielder, with Spurs hoping that at least one of those clubs would sign the 25-year-old on loan.

However, Everton are then said to have come in with a deadline day offer for Alli that Tottenham could not turn down.

If not for Alli’s high wages, I suspect plenty of Premier League clubs would have wanted to take the Tottenham man on loan. I would not be surprised if the midfielder does well at Everton if Lampard hands him a run of starts and helps him rebuild his confidence.
