Report: Spurs offered the chance to sign French midfielder for just £10m

Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The report reveals that the French U-21 star has just over a year left to run on his current contract with Marseille and talks over a new deal have stalled.

The Ligue 1 club, who are currently managed by former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, are thus said to be keen on cashing in on Lopez when the transfer window opens.

The 22-year-old may be available for just £10 million this summer, despite the French club rejecting a £14 million offer from Sevilla for the midfielder in January.

However, is asserted that the La Liga side are certain to renew their interest in the midfielder this summer. Lopez, who can play in a midfield three, just behind the striker, or in wide areas, has reportedly also been offered to Tottenham’s London rivals, West Ham.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This is likely just a case of the player’s agent throwing our name into the mix in order to get more clubs interested in his client. I believe we are fairly well-stocked in central attacking areas and I don’t see how signing Lopez is going to improve our squad.
