Report: Spurs offered to play Rennes just 24 hours after Liverpool clash

The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur even offered to play on successive days to get their Europa Conference League clash against Rennes completed.

Rennes’ trip to Spurs on December 9 was postponed following a Covid-19 outbreak at the North London club and the game could not be rescheduled as UEFA were unable to find an arrangement that suited both parties.

European football’s governing body announced today that the game will be awarded 3-0 to Rennes, thus knocking Tottenham out of the competition.

The Daily Mail have now explained that Spurs went to great lengths to ensure that they could fulfil their fixture against Rennes.

Antonio Conte’s men are alleged to have presented several alternative dates to Rennes but the Ligue 1 side are said to have rejected all the proposed dates.

It is revealed that Spurs even offered to play Rennes just 24 hours following their clash against Liverpool.

However, Bruno Genesio’s side, who played on Saturday and are in action for the final time before their winter break on Wednesday, were not prepared to play on Monday.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Spurs were prepared to play Rennes just 24 hours after the Liverpool clash suggests that Antonio Conte was keen to stay in the Europa Conference League and have a shot at winning the competition.

However, I do believe this can be a blessing in disguise for Spurs, especially given that three of our Premier League matches have to be rescheduled for the new year.
