Report: Spurs ‘on the footsteps’ of 22-year-old La Liga right-back

Spanish publication La Razon (as translated by Sport Witness) have claimed that Tottenham could make a move for Emerson Royal this summer.

Emerson is currently co-owned by Real Betis and Barcelona, with the Catalans having the option to buy him this summer for €6m (£5.1m).

Previous reports from Spain have claimed that the Brazilian, who has had another excellent season for Betis, is on Tottenham’s radar and that Barca are ready to sell him.

Mundo Deportivo revealed two weeks ago that Paris Saint-Germain’s €15m (£13m) offer for the 22-year-old was knocked back.

La Razon now report that Spurs could face plenty of competition for Emerson’s signature this summer.

Apart from the Lilywhites, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be ‘on the footsteps’ of the right-back.

It is explained that Barca’s first option would be to cash in on Emerson this summer but it would take a decent offer to convince the La Liga giants to sell the defender since they would have to pay half of the transfer fee to Betis.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would personally like to see the club go after Max Aarons over Emerson. Even though the Norwich man will likely be more expensive than the Brazilian, his value is likely to go up considerably over the next few years.

Aarons could potentially be our starting right-back for the next decade. We should be able to raise enough funds from Aurier’s and Doherty’s sales to cover a significant portion of Norwich’s asking price for the 21-year-old.
