Report: Spurs on verge of beating two European giants to star player

The Express claim that Tottenham are on the verge of signing Fulham teenage sensation, Ryan Sessegnon this summer, after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

The report states that Spurs are set to beat both Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan to the signature of the left wing-back.

Tottenham apparently see Sessegnon as a long-term replacement for Danny Rose, who was left out of the Spurs pre-season tour squad in order to allow him to pursue an exit this summer after 12 years at the club.

Spurs are said to be willing to pay £25m for Sessegnon this transfer window, as the player has just one year remaining on his contract, Fulham, meanwhile, apparently want something closer to £45m.

Ex-Tottenham star, Danny Murphy, believes that Sessegnon marks a good signing for Pochettino, but also claims that the club should be keeping Danny Rose beyond the summer too.

He said (Bwin – as quoted by the Express): “Tottenham need to sign Sessegnon regardless of whether Rose stays or not.

“Being young and English makes Sessegnon a typical Tottenham signing and one they should definitely make.

“[Mauricio] Pochettino’s track record with young talent means he will be confident that he can unlock Sessegnon’s full potential.

“Rose had a fantastic end to the season and I don’t think Tottenham should let him go, but Sessegnon is the ideal replacement in the long term.

“Rose was back to his best at the end of last season and I think he’ll have a great season.

“Keeping them rotating will keep them fit and there’s plenty of games to get minutes under their belt.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I believe that Danny Rose should be the first choice at left-back again next season, with Ryan Sessegnon used at both left-back and left-wing. I then think that Ben Davies can be used as cover as both a full-back and central defender, although I do not see him as a first choice player.
