Report: Spurs one of four clubs to have now expressed interest in forward

Sport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of four clubs to have expressed an interest in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.

The report claims Barca are prioritising cashing in on Depay and Premier League trio Spurs, Chelsea and Everton, along with Juventus, are interested in the forward.

It is explained, however, that the Netherlands international is not convinced by the Spurs project while he does not see Chelsea as a ‘first option’.

The 28-year-old is also not thought to look favourably on a potential move to Goodison Park as he wants to join a Champions League club.

The report asserts that as things stand, Juventus appear to be the favourites to sign Depay as the striker has shown willingness to join the Serie A giants.

Sport add, however, that finding an agreement with Juventus is likely to prove ‘complicated’ for Barca.

This is because Massimiliano Allegri’s side would prefer to sign the former Manchester United man on a loan deal with an option to buy since they have little room to manoeuvre with respect to financial fair play rules.

The report asserts that Barca might be willing to loan Depay to Juve with an obligation to buy but only if the striker signs a one-year contract extension, which his entourage have not shown a willingness to do so far.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear by now that a move to Spurs is not on the cards for Depay this summer. It is certainly understandable why the Barca striker would not want to join the north London club, knowing that his game time will be extremely limited.

However, I do wonder if Paratici will look to take advantage of Juventus’ financial situation by perhaps making an offer for Weston McKennie. The Serie A giants might need to sell some of their players in order to push ahead with a move for Depay and their other transfer targets.
