Report: Spurs one of four Premier League clubs interested in midfield star

According to Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham Hotspur are facing competition from four different clubs for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Spurs reportedly had offers rejected by Sporting for Palhinha last August (Daily Star) and have been backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international this summer (Record).

It was previously reported that Tottenham are facing competition from Wolves for the Portugal international, with Bruno Lage’s side said to have identified the Sporting star as a replacement for Ruben Neves, who is expected to depart Molineux this summer (Record via Sport Witness).

Jeunes Footeux have now backed up that information, stating that Wolves are Spurs’ main competitors for Palhinha’s signature.

However, the publication claim the West Midlands side are not the only ones the North Londoners have to worry about, with Everton, Sevilla and Leicester City also allegedly having their eyes on the 26-year-old.

The report asserts that Palhinha is expected to cost around €35m (£29.8m) this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most of the speculation linking Spurs with a move for Palhinha seems to be coming from abroad. I suspect it is based on the fact that we showed interest in the Portugal international last summer.

I am not convinced that the 26-year-old is on Tottenham’s radar as I expect Conte to be targeting players who would improve our starting eleven, which I do not think Palhinha will.
