Report: Spurs one of several PL sides watching Championship midfielder

Chronicle Live have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Sunderland starlet Chirs Rigg ahead of the summer transfer window.

Rigg was just 15 years of age when he made his senior Sunderland debut last season in the FA Cup clash away to Shrewsbury.

He has since made two starts in the Championship and a total of 17 senior appearances, scoring against Crewe in the Carabao Cup and Southampton in a 5-0 win (Transfermarkt).

Spurs are interested in Chris Rigg

Chronicle Live have now revealed that the 16-year-old is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in English football, with Tottenham said to be one of the clubs who have checked up on the youngster lately.

The report explains that Newcastle United senior scout Mick Tait was also in attendance at the Stadium of Light last weekend to watch Rigg in action against Queens Park Rangers.

Additionally, the teenager is also said to be the subject of interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, with the Black Cats said to be hoping he will sign a pro deal on his 17th birthday in June.

Tottenham’s transfer policy over the last couple of years has been to try and secure the best young talents in English football and around the world. Following their capture of Ashley Phillips last summer, it is not surprising that the club are now contemplating raiding Sunderland for Rigg.
