Report: Spurs one of three clubs looking to sign £40m-rated Serie A player

Tottenham Hotspur have been named as one of three clubs looking complete a move for Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo this summer, according to the latest reports from Italy.

Zaniolo’s reputation has increased considerably over the last couple of seasons due to his displays in Serie A. TransferMarkt claim that his current valuation sits at £40.5m.

Tottenham were linked with a move for the Italian international last summer (Mirror) and it was reported back in May that the North Londoners were keeping tabs on the left-footer ahead of the summer transfer window (Leggo).

Corriere della Sera have now claimed that Tottenham, Juventus, and Inter Milan are the three leading contenders for Zaniolo’s signature this summer.

It is revealed that all three clubs have conveyed their interest in the 21-year-old and are set to battle it out for the midfielder’s services.

Mourinho is said to be a fan of the Roma star and believes he has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League.

The report suggests however Zaniolo’s preference is to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, especially with the Euros coming up next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Zaniolo is a long-term target for Tottenham and I would not be surprised if we were to show interest in the midfielder if he became available this summer. However, I personally cannot see us spending the kind of money it would take to snap up the 21-year-old unless we receive a massive cash injection through selling someone like Ndombele. Besides, signing another attacking midfielder is not a priority for Spurs this summer as we are fairly well stocked in the position.
