Report: Spurs one of three clubs ‘on trail’ of £21.5m-valued centre-back

Tottenham Hotspur remain in the race to sign talented Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to Calciomercato.

It is explained Spurs and Serie A sides AC Milan and Roma are ‘on the trail’ to land a deal for Hincapie, 20, who impressed in his debut campaign in Germany.

Leverkusen have not ruled out a sale of the Ecuadorian international, who is contracted until 2026, it is thought the club have contacted his agents to discuss a new deal with improved financial terms.

But should a transfer for Hincapie be made this summer, Die Werkself are believed to have placed a price tag in the region of €25-30 million (£21.5-£25.8m).

Hincapie linked up with Leverkusen last summer and was instrumental as the club secured a third place finish in the Bundesliga.

Capable of playing in central defence and at left-back he made 33 appearances in all competitions and featured during the club’s Europa League campaign (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Hincapie has attracted plenty of attention after his performances last season and it looks like Spurs may have a fight on their hands if they want to complete a transfer.

It is interesting that he could be available for a pretty modest price given he is so talented and has room to grow, but surely Leverkusen will want to demand more as he still has a long contract.
