Report: Spurs open contract talks which could see star end his career in North London

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have opened preliminary talks with Hugo Lloris over a new contract.

The Frenchman’s current deal has two more years left to run and he is one of the club’s highest earners with wages of over £100,000-a-week.

However, it is suggested that Spurs are keen to tie him to a new lucrative long-term deal that would see the goalkeeper finish his career in North London.

Lloris has come under criticism from sections of the fan base during the last couple of years on the back of some poor mistakes.

However, the Spurs skipper has been in terrific form since returning to first-team action after missing a big chunk of last season with a dislocated elbow.

The report claims that despite Joe Hart’s arrival at Spurs last month, Jose Mourinho considers Lloris as the number one for the time being and wants to use Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga as the 33-year-old’s understudies.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lloris has been a terrific servant to Spurs over the years and is comfortably the best goalkeeper we have had in the Premier League era. He was one of the most sought after goalkeepers in the world until around two years ago, when he started to decline a bit.

However, he has been in terrific form since returning from his injury lay-off and there are very few goalkeepers in the world who are better shot-stoppers than the Frenchman when he is at the top of his game. Lloris has been loyal to Spurs when he had opportunities to leave in the past and it is only fair that we repay that faith, especially given his improved form.
