Report: Spurs open official talks for midfielder – £20m may seal summer deal

A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur have now opened official discussions with Southampton over a summer deal to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the last couple of months, with the midfielder going public with his desire to play at a higher level (Sport 1).

Football Insider now reveals that the Saints are ready to sell him this summer after the midfielder rejected multiple contract extension offers.

The report claims that Spurs have already held talks with the 24-year-old’s entourage about the possibility of moving to North London.

Jose Mourinho’s side are said to have made the Denmark international their main midfield target this summer.

The Lilywhites have now allegedly held preliminary talks with the Saints over a summer transfer. It is suggested that Southampton will be willing to accept an offer of around £20million for the former Bayern Munich man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some Spurs fans seem to think Hojbjerg will be the answer to all our midfield problems but that will not be the case. He is a decent player but by no means has he shown that he has the potential to be anywhere near world-class in his position. In fact, he seems to be a divisive figure among the Saints fan base.

Having said that, I still think he will improve our side and help strengthen an obvious weak point. Just because he does not stand out in Hasenhutll’s system, does not mean he potentially can’t be the perfect foil for the likes of Lo Celso and Ndombele.

If it is the case that he is Jose’s primary target, then I would hope that Levy has learned his lessons from his previous mistakes and moves swiftly to complete the deal. It will be extremely frustrating to see us stretch out the negotiations to get him on the cheap, only for another club to swoop in and sign him at the last moment.
