Report: Spurs open talks over potential replacement for first team player

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan as a possible replacement for Hugo Lloris according to Eurosport journalist Manu Lonjon.

Maignan has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the French top-flight in recent seasons and has previously worked with Spurs assistant coach Joao Sacramento and goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos at Lille.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding the goalkeeping role at Spurs over the last few weeks with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in a stopper to push Hugo Lloris for the number one jersey (Daily Mail).

Tottenham have been linked with a number of goalkeepers including Ajax’s Andre Onana (The Sun), Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha (Il Tempo), Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson (Daily Mail) and Burnley’s Nick Pope (Football.London).

Lonjon claims that Spurs have begun discussions with Lille over the possibility of signing Maignan this summer.

He claims that the Lilywhites believe Lloris might leave the club when the transfer window opens and so Mourinho is said to be interested in bringing the Lille star to North London.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are almost guaranteed to sign a goalkeeper this summer with Michel Vorm set to leave at the end of the season. However, there is no chance that Lloris will be sold this summer.

I believe the Frenchman will stay and probably retain his number one spot next season. We are much more likely to bring in a goalkeeper that can compete with Gazzaniga for the number two spot rather than someone to usurp Lloris.
