Report: Spurs opening bid for talented teenager rejected

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs that are keen on signing Peterborough’s Ricky-Jade Jones.

The report claims that Manchester United, Leicester City, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are also monitoring the youngster closely. Southampton and Burnley also allegedly sent scouts to watch Jones play recently.

Jones, a pacey forward who can also play in midfield, is one of the hottest properties in League One at the moment.

Tottenham are said to have tested the waters with a £2 million bid but Peterborough rejected the offer as they are said to be keen on starting a bidding war for the youngster.

The League One club are in an extremely strong bargaining position as they are said to have tied Jones down to a new contract earlier this month.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the players we have been linked with recently, it looks like the club is going to continue its policy of buying young. However, with Jose Mourinho not having a great record of developing young players, one wonders if the club would be wise to abandon that approach and buy experienced, proven talents for the next couple of years.
