Report: Spurs pair wanted by Premier League rival

According to a report in the Daily Star, Manchester United want to sign Tottenham pair, Lucas Moura and Eric Dier in the January transfer window.

Both players are currently struggling to break into Spurs’ first XI, and United are reportedly keen on taking advantage of the situation when the transfer market reopens in a few months.

Despite his heroics towards the end of last season in the Champions League, Moura has only started two of Tottenham’s matches so far this season.

The report claims that the Brazilian international, who signed a new five-year contract with the club in the summer, is concerned about the lack of faith that Mauricio Pochettino is showing in him and is increasingly keen on quitting the club.

It is suggested that Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a huge admirer of Moura’s versatility and has identified the 27-year-old as the man to replace Romeu Lukaku, who was sold to Inter Milan in the summer.

Meanwhile, Dier is yet to play any competitive football for Spurs this season with Pochettino opting to name him on the bench for most of Tottenham’s games so far.

The report asserts that the Red Devils are also in the market for a defensive midfielder in January and could make a cut-price swoop for the England man if he is to continue remaining in the peripheries of the Spurs squad.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the fact that Spurs have more strength in depth in their squad this season, it is only natural that those that don’t make the team are linked with moves away. It is highly unlikely that the club will let Moura go, having just handed him a new contract in the summer.

Dier, on the other hand, needs to get match fit and get some game time under his belt first. However, with the competition for places intensifying in the central midfield area due to Tottenham’s summer additions, the England international certainly has his work cut out to win his place in the side back.
