Report: Spurs’ Paratici will send scouts to watch Italy international this week

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (26/04/22 edition – as relayed by Sport Witness), Fabio Paratici is set to send a club official to take a closer look at AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo this week.

Zaniolo had a sluggish start to the season after missing the majority of the last campaign due to an ACL injury.

However, the winger has shown signs of getting back to his best over recent months, with his tally now up to seven goals and eight assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

It was reported last month that Spurs and Juventus both hold an interest in the Italy international ahead of the summer transfer window (Fichajes).

Calciomercato.it claimed last week that Paratici is a fan of the 22-year-old, having previously tried to take him to Juventus.

The report added that the 49-year-old could look to swoop for the Italy international, who is valued at around €40m-€50m (£33.2m-£41.5m) by Jose Mourinho’s men.

Gazzetta have now claimed that the Spurs managing director will send scouts over to the King Power Stadium on Thursday to watch Zaniolo in action against Leicester in the first leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final.

The report adds, however, that Tottenham are not the only club expected to send representatives over, with Newcastle also set to have someone in attendance.

It is asserted that Zaniolo is also of interest to Juventus and AC Milan, both of whom are said to be keeping tabs on the player’s situation at the Stadio Olimpico.

Spurs Web Opinion

Before his ACL injury, Zaniolo was rightly thought of as a generational talent by many in Italian football.

The question now is how much the injury has affected his game and whether clubs feel the 22-year-old has the potential to reach the heights he did a couple of years ago.

The main objective of the scouting trip would perhaps be to ascertain the winger’s fitness levels.
