Report: Spurs planning to make move for 26-year-old Spain international

Fichajes have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to make a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres in the summer.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are expected to be in the market for two central defenders during the summer transfer window (The Athletic).

As far as the left-sided centre-back role is concerned, Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie have both been mooted as targets for the North London club (Football.London).

Fichajes have now put forward another name in Torres, explaining that the Spaniard is in Tottenham’s sights as Villarreal have no choice but to cash in on him next summer since his current deal runs out in 2024.

The publication states that Spurs want to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season and see the 26-year-old as a potential piece in the puzzle.

It is asserted that the Lilywhites have ‘closely followed’ the evolution of Torres and believe that he is an ‘ideal profile’ owing to his ability to defend the penalty area and his proficiency in playing the ball out from the back.

I think Conte will have his doubts over whether Torres could cope with the physicality of Premier League football, which I suspect is why Spurs did not pursue the Spaniard last summer. I believe the likes of Bastoni, Ndicka and Hincapie are likely to rank higher on the Italian’s wishlist.
