Report: Spurs played a role in persuading Conte to quit Inter Milan

According to a report from La Stampa (as relayed by Sempre Inter), Tottenham’s interest might have played a role in convincing Antonio Conte to quit Inter Milan.

Conte resigned from Inter after leading the club to a historic Scudetto win, with reports indicating that he was unhappy with the club owners’ insistence that the squad had to be trimmed.

The likes of Alasdair Gold have suggested that Tottenham decided to make Conte their number one target after realising that Paris Saint-Germain were not willing to budge on Mauricio Pochettino returning to the club.

However, if La Stampa are to be believed, the North London club showed interest in the Italian coach even before he left the San Siro.

The report alleges that Tottenham made contact with Conte at the end of the season and the 51-year-old spotted an opportunity to secure another big job in the Premier League.

In addition, La Stampa also claim (as relayed by InsideFutbol) that Spurs have offered Conte a contract worth €15m (£13m) per season that could rise to €20m (£17m) based on bonus payments and add-ons.
