Report: Spurs player considering calling time on his international career

Victor Wanyama may not have played a minute of Premier League football for Tottenham Hotspur this season but he certainly has had his fair share of headlines in recent days.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from North London in the closing few days of the European transfer window with Tottenham said to have agreed a £13.6million deal with Club Brugge (BBC).

Despite the intense speculation, a move failed to materialise and he finds himself still at the Champions League finalists.

With the Premier League on break this weekend due to the international fixtures, Nairobi News are reporting that Wanyama asked to miss Kenya’s upcoming match against Uganda on medical grounds.

The report claims that the 28-year-old is now considering retiring from international football.

Wanyama has struggled with knee problems over the past two seasons and revealed in April that he had been experiencing frustration with how he had to watch on from the sidelined and try and regain his fitness (Independent).

Opinion

Unfortunately, it appears that injuries have got the better of Wanyama and the player we saw in his first season at White Hart Lane is no more. For the sake of prolonging his career, retirement from international football would be a sensible move.
