Report: Spurs player could leave this summer just one year after joining

Ivan Perisic could be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, just one year after joining the club on a free transfer from Inter Milan.

The experienced Croatian was signed early in the summer window last year and there were high hopes that he could replicate the kind of form we’ve seen of him at international level and with Inter and Bayern Munich.

While Ivan Perisic has contributed 12 assists and one goal in all competitions for Spurs this year (Transfermarkt), there is a feeling that the 34-year-old has underwhelmed.

There have been rumours linking the veteran with a return to Inter Milan this summer (Inter Live), especially since Antonio Conte, thought to be a major factor in Perisic joining Spurs in the first place, has now left the club.

Perisic’s current contract does run through to the summer of 2024, but the talk surrounding his future at Tottenham is becoming increasingly negative.

Now, the latest from Football.London suggests Perisic could be set to leave at the end of the season as the club prepares to undergo a rebuild after a disastrous campaign.

The report claims Perisic is expected to “head out of the exit door” despite being tied to the club for another year.

He is mentioned in the same breath as current captain Hugo Lloris, who is also thought to be leaving the club this summer, with the piece recognising the fact that two “experienced, high-earning” players could be lost imminently.

While their wages will be a relief on the budget, their experience is likely to be missed all the same.

Spurs Web Opinion

I just don’t think Perisic’s heart has been in it this year sadly.

I’m not saying he’s not been a professional or anything, but I think he had a very different idea of how his time in England would go, and he has probably missed the more familiar settings of Italy or Europe in general.

He’s a quality player, but I wouldn’t be sad to see him go.
