Report: Spurs player expected to complete medical on Sunday before exit

Ouest-France have revealed that Joe Rodon is expected to arrive at Rennes on Sunday in order to seal a move to the Ligue 1 club.

Rodon has struggled to get regular game time under his belt since arriving at Tottenham from Swansea City two years ago.

After being overlooked by three different Tottenham managers in Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito and Antonio Conte, The Evening Standard revealed earlier this summer that the centre-back was desperate to leave in search of regular football.

Reports first emerged on Thursday that the Wales international was set to join Rennes on an initial loan deal with an option to buy (Fabrizio Romano).

The 24-year-old has not travelled with the Spurs squad to Israel, with Conte admitting in his press conference on Friday that the North London club are trying to find a solution for the defender (Football.London).

Ouest-France have now claimed that Rennes are about to finalise the signing of Rodon after reaching an agreement with Spurs on a loan deal, with an option to buy for €20m (£16.8m).

The report asserts that the central defender is due in France on Sunday to complete his medical before sealing a switch to Roazhon Park.

The fact that Spurs have agreed to insert an option to buy suggests that Conte does not see Rodon as being part of his long-term plans.

While the Welshman arguably did not get a fair crack at Spurs, the fact that three different managers overlooked him, suggests that he does have some flaws to his game.

It will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old can do well enough in France to potentially earn a switch to a Premier League club over the next couple of years.
