Report: Spurs player finds himself caught in the middle of an internal power struggle

According to a report in ElDesmarque (as translated by Sport Witness), Alejo Veliz has become the subject of a tussle for power inside Sevilla, which is part of the reason why the striker has hardly got any game time since his loan move to the club.

Veliz has only made three substitute appearances since his switch to the La Liga side and has failed to start a single match so far.

The 20-year-old has even been left out of the matchday squad on a few occasions recently and ElDesmarque now suggests leaving the Tottenham man out of that squad was intended as a message by Quique Sanchez Flores to the club’s hierarchy.

Alejo Veliz is stuck in limbo at Sevilla

It is explained that the club’s sporting director Victor Orta wanted to bring young, up-and-coming players through the door in January, which is why he decided to sign Veliz and Hannibal Mejbri on loan from Spurs and Man Utd respectively.

However, the report says while Orta was pleased to get the pair, Sanchez Flores preferred experienced and readymade solutions instead.

The publication provides that as the reason why the Spanish coach has decided not to play the duo and adds that neither player will remain at the Andalusian club beyond the end of the current season.

Tottenham will certainly be livid with the way that Veliz has been treated by Sevilla as the North London club would have not allowed the striker to move to the club without verbal guarantees that he would get game time.
