The Daily Mirror have claimed on their live transfer blog (19/06, 15:04) that some of Europe’s biggest clubs were keen on snapping up Tottenham academy starlet Mikey Moore this summer.
Moore is widely seen as one of the best emerging talents in Spurs‘ academy ranks, with the 15-year-old playing 10 times for the Under-18s last season and seven times for the Under-21s (Transfermarkt).
It emerged a couple of days ago that the versatile attacking midfielder had agreed on a new contract at Hotspur Way until 2026 (Fabrizio Romano).
Tottenham had to fight hard to keep Mikey Moore
The Mirror have now asserted that it was not easy for Spurs to hang on to the teenager, who was on the wishlist of several of Europe’s big hitters.
The publication states that Real Madrid, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund, along with many major Premier League teams, were watching Moore’s contract situation.
It is alleged that Chelsea even made a mega-contract offer to the youngster, which meant that Tottenham had to battle to keep him at the club.
It is explained that Daniel Levy himself got involved personally to ensure the deal got done to send a strong message about Tottenham’s commitment and ambition for their youth set-up.
The Mirror add that with Ange Postecoglou now in charge, there is a feeling at Tottenham that Moore will get first-team opportunities within the next two years.

Postecoglou’s arrival is great news for the likes of Moore, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine, who now know that they could get opportunities if they impress the Australian in training.
If the new Tottenham head coach does hand chances to young players during the upcoming season, that would hopefully send a message to the players in the academy that they do not need to leave the club in order to get first-team football.
