Report: Spurs player makes decision on his future after contract development

Football Insider have revealed that Eric Dier has now decided to leave Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent when his contract runs out next summer.

The report states that Dier has come to that decision after the latest round of contract talks between him and Tottenham collapsed.

It is explained that Spurs would be keen to listen to offers for the 29-year-old in January, with the club wanting to offload him and bring a centre-back through the door.

However, the England international has allegedly decided to wait until next summer as he would have a lot more options to choose from as a free agent.

Spurs are unlikely to get a fee for Eric Dier

This report comes on the back of multiple updates over the last month linking Dier with a move away from Tottenham in January.

On October 9, The Times reported that Sporting Lisbon are exploring re-signing the Tottenham man, explaining that the Portuguese club’s president Frederico Varandas has a good relationship with the defender.

Meanwhile, reports from Italy have continued to suggest that Dier is Jose Mourinho’s top choice to strengthen Roma’s backline in January (Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato).

Dier’s preference might be to leave next summer as not only would he have a lot of options to choose from but he would also be able to land a big contract if he is a free agent.

However, should a tempting opportunity open up in January, the 29-year-old might find it hard to say no, given how starved of game time he is at Spurs.
