Report: Spurs player pushed for a move to La Liga in January

According to a report in Spanish publication Sport (as relayed by Football.London), Harry Winks pushed for a move to La Liga during the January transfer window.

Winks has been a bit-part player for Tottenham this season, with most of his minutes coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.

The 24-year-old has previously spoken about his desire to play more regularly for the club so that he can keep his place in the England squad ahead of the Euros in the summer.

With Jose Mourinho now using Tanguy Ndombele in a deeper role rather than as a number ten, Winks has an uphill battle to force himself into the starting eleven.

Sport claims that the midfielder was keen on joining a La Liga club during last month’s window but Jose Mourinho was not willing to let him leave.

It is suggested that Winks will ‘insist’ on a move to a top Spanish club when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Winks is likely to be on his way out in the summer transfer window. It is difficult to imagine him dislodging Ndombele at the minute and he will find it even harder to get into the team when Giovani Lo Celso returns from his injury.
