Report: Spurs player set to receive six-figure fine

Tottenham Hotspur are set to slap a whopping £140,000 fine on Serge Aurier following his latest lockdown breach, according to The Sun.

Aurier posted a photo on Instagram of himself and a barber after getting a haircut at his home in what appears to be another defiance of the government’s lockdown guidelines.

The defender’s actions were met with plenty of criticism as it came just over a month after he after posting a video of himself jogging alongside Moussa Sissoko, for which the pair had to issue an apology.

Instead of apologising for his actions this time around, the 28-year-old hit out at critics on Wednesday and claimed that he didn’t do anything wrong since both he and his barber had tested negative for COVID-19.

The Sun now reports that Spurs are furious with the Ivorian his behaviour and feel that he has embarrassed the club with his lockdown transgressions.

They reveal that the defender’s response to the criticism could be the final straw for Spurs, who are set to fine the former PSG man two weeks’ wages.

It is also suggested that Aurier’s latest mistake could put his future in North London in jeopardy.

Spurs Web Opinion

He absolutely deserves the strictest possible fine purely for his idiocy. Getting a barber to cut his hair wasn’t a massive mistake but to post an image on social media, particularly after what happened last month, was incredibly naive.

His rebuttal on Wednesday has made things much worse. This is really the last thing the club needs to be dealing with at a time when their image has taken a hit due to their initial furlough decision.
