According to The Athletic, Eric Dier turned down the opportunity to join Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest late in the transfer window.

Even though Dier has only one year left on his contract at Tottenham and is seemingly not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, the North London club were unable to offload the centre-back before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The 29-year-old potentially faces being on the bench until the January window, with Postecoglou even opting to name 18-year-old summer signing Ashley Phillips in the matchday squad Turf Moor ahead of the England international.

It was reported on transfer deadline day that Spurs had offered the experienced defender to Bournemouth as a part of a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly (Michael Bridge), with the transfer failing to materialise in the end.

Eric Dier also turned down Nottingham Forest

The Athletic have now explained that Dier was not only offered to the Cherries and also to Forest but the defender did not green light either move.

It is alleged that despite Daniel Levy’s efforts to offload the defender, there was no deal that suited Tottenham and the player.

It is clear that Dier wants to run his contract down and leave on a free transfer next summer so that he has several options to choose from.

The 29-year-old seemingly wants to move abroad and at the moment, not many Serie A and La Liga sides are in a strong enough financial position to pay even modest transfer fees for players.
