Report: Spurs player withdraws from international squad through injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon has withdrawn from England U21 international duty after picking up a knock this week.

The U21 side are due to play Kosovo on Tuesday but Sessegnon will no longer play any part in that fixture and is already heading back to North London.

England reported that the left-back will return to Hotspur Way for further assessment after picking up ‘a knock’ in training this week.

Sessegnon is yet to make his first Premier League appearance of the season after returning from injury last month, but he has featured twice in the Europa Conference League for Spurs.

The England U21 international started both of Tottenham’s qualification fixtures against Pacos de Ferreira, looking bright in spells as he lined up at left-wing-back.

Sessegnon spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim in an attempt to gain more first-team minutes, clocking up 29 appearances and registering five goal involvements (TransferMarket).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Sessegnon has been so unlucky with injuries over the last few years and this would be an unfortunate start to the season, just when he was starting to get chances. I would assume that Nuno sees him as Reguilon’s backup in that attacking left-back role, so hopefully the knock is not serious.
