Report: Spurs player’s departure to La Liga club could be sealed ‘next week’

Spanish publication Todofichajes claim there is belief in all camps that Giovani Lo Celso could be a Villarreal player by next week.

Lo Celso has seemingly already played his final game for Tottenham, with the Argentine being left out of the club’s pre-season tour to South Korea.

It was reported earlier this month that while Villarreal are keen on signing the Argentine permanently on the back of his impressive loan spell at the club, the Yellow Submarine would have to sell players to acquire the funds needed for a move (Marca).

Over recent days, it has been suggested that Fiorentina have also entered the race for the 26-year-old’s signature (Corriere Dello Sport 16/07/22 via Sport Witness).

Todofichajes have now explained that despite Spurs having ‘other superior offers’ on the table for Lo Celso, the midfielder is prioritising a return to El Madrigal.

It is alleged that Lo Celso is determined to reunite with Unai Emery after the former Arsenal boss showed so much trust in him last season.

It is explained that Villarreal are looking to sign the Spurs man on loan with an obligation to buy, and while the La Liga club want the purchase clause to be around €12m-€15m (£10.2m-£12.7m), the North London club are pushing for €18m-€20m (£15.3m-£17m).

Todofichajes add that both parties expect the operation to be closed ‘at the latest next week’.

Spurs Web Opinion

This report seems to suggest that Spurs are willing to sacrifice a few million so that Lo Celso gets his wish of rejoining Villarreal. If that is true, it suggests that the north London club want to clear their deadwood as soon as possible instead of waiting until the final weeks of the transfer window.
