Football.London have revealed that the Tottenham players who have joined up with their national squads have been given extra training schedules by Antonio Conte and his coaching staff.
The Evening Standard reported yesterday that how Conte plans to put the Spurs players who will remain at Hotspur Way during the international break through a ‘mini pre-season’.
It was explained that the next two weeks include a number of days of double training sessions, with a focus on the players’ conditioning.
Football.London have now revealed that it will not just be the players remaining at Hotspur Way who will put through a rigorous fitness schedule.
It is said that Spurs’ international stars will not escape the extra work either, with many of them being handed extra training schedules by Conte and his staff while being away on national duty.
The focus of the extra work is on improving the players’ fitness levels, with those who have not been getting many minutes under their belt thought to have been handed a particularly intensive regime.
The goal is to make the players catch up on the fitness they require to implement Conte’s pressing system, particularly since he has not had a pre-season with the squad.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that the players’ fitness levels have dropped considerably over the last couple of years. So, this was certainly needed.
However, given that the players are essentially being put through a second pre-season in November, we should not be surprised to see an increase in the number of injuries in the second half of the season. Conte and his coaching staff have obviously decided that it is a risk that is work taking.
