Report: Spurs plot move to sign young right-back for bargain price

Tottenham are plotting a £4 million bid for West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson in the summer, according to reports.

A report in Football Insider claims that Tottenham have been following the young defender for several months.

Spurs reportedly pulled out of the race for the 19-year-old early last month and he was said to be close to a move to Crystal Palace.

Ferguson’s £11 million move to the Eagles is said to have collapsed in the final days of the transfer window as the right-back had a knee injury that was likely to rule him out for the majority of what’s left of the season.

However, the report asserts that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in the defender in the summer as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen at right-back.

It is claimed that the teenager’s contract runs out in the summer but that it will require around a £4 million compensation fee to Premier League clubs to sign him.

The report also adds that Spurs have laid the groundwork for a deal with Norwich full-back Max Aarons.

I personally believe Aarons would be a much better option to go for than Ferguson as he is already proven in the Premier League and offers more going forward. While he is unlikely to cost as little as £4 million, he won’t be too expensive given that Norwich look certain to go down.
