Report: Spurs plotting £40m bid for 19-year-old starlet

Tottenham Hotspur have not signed a single new player in over 15 months, with Lucas Moura being their last acquisition back in January 2018.

The current club record signing at Tottenham is Davinson Sanchez, who Spurs bought from Ajax in 2017 for a fee in the region of £40m (Sky Sports).

However, there could be a new £40m star on the horizon, and he is even younger than the 22-year-old Colombian central defender.

According to a report by the Mirror, Spurs are planning a £40m bid for Roma youngster Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 19-year-old only broke through into the Roma first team this season, but racked up 35 appearances in the process, including six goals and two assists.

Zaniolo also earned his first two Italy caps throughout the season, and is said to be a target of a number of top clubs, including Real Madrid, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.

Should Spurs splash out on a young and relatively unproven starlet?

Spurs Web Opinion:

While I have heard great things about Zaniolo, it doesn’t appear he wants to leave Roma at the moment, and I would place a number of other targets above him on my wishlist. James Maddison and Donny Van de Beek would both come above Zaniolo for me, especially if Spurs would have to shell out £40m for him.
