Report: Spurs plotting move for £50m-rated Spanish international who Conte rates highly

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres in the summer.

Torres has emerged as one of the most reliable central defenders in La Liga over the last two years and has become an integral part of Luis Enrique’s Spain team.

Tottenham reportedly tabled an offer worth £55 million for the Villarreal man last summer but he chose to stay put at his boyhood club (Marca).

According to Football Insider, Spurs are planning to reignite their interest in Torres this summer. The report claims the North Londoners want to add a top-class central defender to their squad and have identified the 25-year-old as a target.

Antonio Conte is alleged to be a big admirer of the Spain international, with the Spurs boss said to be of the view that he is one of the finest centre-backs in Europe.

The report adds that Villarreal value Torres at £50m and that Spurs are set to face plenty of competition from Premier League rivals for the defender.

Torres is a class above all of the other options we have been linked with for the left centre-back role, including the likes of Sven Botman and Alessio Romagnoli. However, a deal for the 25-year-old would be difficult to pull off this summer as he is likely to be one of the hottest properties in Europe this summer.
