Report: Spurs plotting move for £67.5m defender in January – Paratici believes deal can be done

Tottenham are planning to make a swoop for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt in January, according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old joined the Old Lady for around €75 million (£67.5m) in 2019 but Tottenham managing director of football, Fabio Paratici allegedly believes a deal ‘can be done’ for De Ligt.

Reports emerged recently that De Ligt has been unhappy with his role in the Juventus fold so far this season, with manager Massimiliano Allegri often electing to use the trusted partnership of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci instead.

As such, Spurs are said to be one of the clubs holding an interest in the defender, with Football Insider claiming Paratici has placed the Netherlands international Tottenham’s radar as one of their new centre-back additions.

This sees him join Conte’s reported shortlist of winter targets from Serie A, which includes the likes of Inter Milan defender and compatriot Stefan de Vrij.

This would prove to be a mammoth signing for Spurs if they were to get it over the line, but they have to be prepared to pay big for him.

That being said, you still doubt whether the club will be willing to shell out that much for one player in January, when transfer business is tough.
