Report: Spurs potentially holding up transfer deal for Premier League side

Tottenham Hotspur are could be potentially set to hold up a deal for Southampton to sign Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie.

The Express claim that the Saints need to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before they are able to land the USA international.

Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham with The Guardian claiming that the North Londoners are confident of landing the Danish international.

The 24-year-old is in the last twelve months of his contract at St Mary’s and is also said to have turned down approaches from Everton and three other clubs on the continent such is his desire to complete a move to Jose Mourinho’s side (Daily Echo).

Southampton are reported to have been in discussions with Tottenham for nearly two weeks over the structure of the deal and will not make an official bid for McKennie until Hojbjerg’s departure is confirmed.

Hojbjerg started the season as Southampton’s club captain but was stripped of the role by Ralph Hasenhuttl after the midfielder made public his desire to leave the club (BBC).
