Report: Spurs prioritise move for Bundesliga defender over two other targets

Red Bull Leipzig centre half Josko Gvardiol has emerged as Tottenham Hotspur’s main defensive target this summer, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims that Spurs have prioritised a move for the 20-year-old over Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Sven Botman of Lille.

Antonio Conte is said to have made his intentions known that he would prefer to bring the Croatian international to north London ahead of other targets with the player able to operate on the left-hand side of his defence, and as a left-back.

Gvardiol has impressed at Leipzig following his move from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2020, he was initially loaned back to the Croatian club and first appeared in the Bundesliga last August.

The defender has gone on to make 33 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit in all competitions this season, netting on two occasions (transfermarkt).
