Report: Spurs promote starlet to senior team and Nuno wants new contract

Tottenham have promoted academy star Tobi Omole to the club’s first-team after impressing Nuno Espirito Santo in training, according to Football Insider.

The 21-year-old defender joined Tottenham on a free transfer last year, after seeing his contract expire with North London rivals Arsenal.

Although the move at the time was considered to be a minor addition to fill the squad, Football Insider understand that Spurs boss Nuno has been impressed with Omole and has promoted him to train with the senior team over the next fortnight.

The Portuguese coach holds the centre-back highly in his estimations and reportedly feels a new contract could soon be on the way for him.

Omole’s current deal at Spurs runs until the end of the season and he could secure an extension if he continues to impress.

He has not yet featured for Spurs’ first-team, but he has been registered on the bench on three occasions so far – in the Premier League against Crystal Palace and in both Europa Conference League fixtures.

It is good to see Nuno and his team utilising the club’s academy set-up and looking to reward players who are doing well. Hopefully, the exposure to training with some senior players over the next couple of weeks can have a positive impact on Omole.
