Report: Spurs pull out of race for young defender as PL club line up offer

According to a report in The Sun on Sunday – 26/1; page 61 (as relayed by TBR Football) Spurs have pulled out for the race for West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson, leaving Crystal Palace to have a free run at him.

Ferguson has had a sensational season for Slaven Bilic’s side since breaking into the team this season and has been a mainstay in the line-up as they chase promotion back to the Premier League.

The young full back’s performances for the Baggies have reportedly caught the attention of
several clubs, including Spurs.

The report claims that both Tottenham and Crystal Palace registered their interest in Ferguson earlier in the season, with the defender’s contract at West Brom running out in the summer.

However, it is asserted that Spurs have now pulled out of the race after they were put off by foreign clubs who are able to discuss a pre-contract deal with the youngster.

The report says Palace will now submit a £4 million offer for the 19-year-old before the close of the transfer window and hope that it will be enough to tempt the Championship table-toppers into selling Ferguson.

Spurs Web Opinion

Right-back is one of our weakest areas since there seems to be no real cover for Serge Aurier with Mourinho seemingly not trusting Kyle Walker-Peters. However, Japhet Tangaga’s emergence has bought us a little more time and I believe the club will reassess their defensive options in the summer. I would personally prefer Max Aarons over Nathan Ferguson as I believe the former has a higher ceiling.
