Report: Spurs pushing ahead midfielder deal but may not complete ahead of deadline

Giovani Lo Celso has arguably his best game in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt on Wednesday night.

The Argentine was rightly named as the supporter’s man of the match following the win against the Canaries.

Football Insider claim that Tottenham are pushing ahead with their plans to make the midfielder’s move from Real Betis permanent.

Spurs are said to be hopeful of reaching a deal with the La Liga side but it is unlikely to be confirmed before the January window closes next Friday and would instead see the deal confirmed in the summer.

The Champions League finalists are reported to have already paid a loan fee of £14million and can shell out at a further £37million to complete the deal.

Lo Celso suffered a slow start to life in North London after picking up a hip injury whilst on international duty with Argentina which kept him out for two months but showed on Wednesday that he has the potential to play in a deeper midfield role rather than someone who can slot into Christian Eriksen’s role.

He played a pivotal part in the opening goal when he won back possession to allow Serge Aurier to provide the cross for Dele Alli and also played the clever reverse to Dele for Son’s late winner.
