Report: Spurs pushing to include makeweight player in deal for Zaniolo

La Repubblica have revealed (12:51) that Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to include makeweights, such as Japhet Tanganga, in a deal to sign Nicolo Zanioilo from AS Roma.

The speculation linking Spurs with a move for Zaniolo has been steadily intensifying over the last couple of weeks.

90 min reported last week that the North London club were not willing to give up on their pursuit of the winger while CalcioMercato suggested a few days ago that Antonio Conte’s ‘craze’ about signing the 23-year-old can be ‘unbearable’ for the Spurs hierarchy.

Tutto AS Roma suggested last week that Tottenham were even willing to include Tanguy Ndombele and Tangagna as makeweights in a deal for the Italy international.

If La Repubblica’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are pushing for Tanganga to be included in the deal but Roma are not particularly keen on a makeweight being included.

The report claims that while Tottenham have not reached an agreement with the Serie A club regarding the valuation for Zaniolo, the two clubs are expected to continue talks over the coming days.

However, La Repubblica add that as things stand, the winger is expected to remain at the Stadio Olimpico for another season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jose Mourinho is a fan of Tanganga and so, I can see why Tottenham would be pushing for the defender to be included in the deal. However, player-exchange deals hardly ever work out as clubs seldom tend to agree on valuations of multiple players.

If we do sign Zaniolo this summer, I suspect it would have to be a straight cash deal or potentially a loan with an obligation to buy. I also do wonder if Kulusevski’s impressive showing on Saturday might make Spurs rethink their pursuit of the Roma star.
