Report: Spurs pushing ‘with great insistence’ to sign Napoli defensive star

According to the latest reports from Italy, Tottenham Hotspur are still pushing hard to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.

The Napoli centre back has been one of the standout defenders in the Serie A for the past few seasons and has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Tottenham were said to be interested in the 28-year-old during the January transfer window (Eldesmarque) and the North Londoners continued to be linked with the Senegal international until the start of last month (Sky Sports).

In recent weeks, links to Koulibaly have been replaced with players like Guillermo Maripan (AS) and Marash Kumbulla (Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness).

That seemed to suggest that Spurs were shopping for a central defender at a lower price than the Napoli star but reports linking the Lilywhites with a move for Koulibaly have now resurfaced.

Il Mattino (as relayed by Sport Witness) claim that Tottenham are pushing with great insistence to snap up the centre-back this summer, while Liverpool are also said to be interested.

The report asserts that the Serie A side are open to letting the defender go but only if their asking price of around €70million (£62 million) is met.

Spurs Web Opinion

The general consensus among experts seems to be that big-money moves of over £50 million are unlikely to go through this summer. Daniel Levy is certainly not one to take too much risk, especially under the current circumstances. So, anyone who believes the links to the likes of Koulibaly, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, or Victor Osihmen are incredibly naive.
