Report: Spurs ‘ready to enter’ into negotiations for 24-year-old defender

Italian publication Corriere di Puglia e Lucania have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to begin talks with Fiorentina over a deal for Nikola Milenkovic.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a centre-back when the transfer window opens next month.

It was reported during the summer that Spurs were competing with West Ham United for Milenkovic, with Fabio Paratici alleged to be a big fan of the versatile defender.

However, the central defender ended up staying at the Artemio Franchi Stadium and subsequently signed a short-term contract extension with the Viola.

CalcioMercato reported earlier this week that Fiorentina have to make a decision on the 24-year-old this January as his contract runs out in the summer of 2023.

The report stated that the centre-back is wanted by AC Milan following the knee injury sustained by Simon Kjaer and that Antonio Conte’s Spurs were lurking ‘in the background’.

Corriere di Puglia have now stated that Milenkovic is ‘liked’ by several clubs around Europe ahead of January, including Juventus and Manchester United.

The report also backs up claims about Milan’s interest in the defender and adds that Tottenham are also ‘closely following the player’ and are now ‘ready to enter’ into negotiations with Fiorentina.

Spurs Web Opinion

Of the long list of centre-backs we have been linked with over the past two months, Milenkovic and Bremer seem like the most realistic targets. Both the Torino and Fiorentina centre-backs would be relatively inexpensive and would fit naturally into Conte’s back three.
