Report: Spurs ready to hijack Chelsea’s move for 27-year-old

According to a report in the Express, Tottenham and Chelsea are set to go head to head this summer for the signature of Burnley goalkeeper, Nick Pope, after the Lilywhites entered the race for the 27-year-old.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding the goalkeeping role at Spurs over the last few weeks, with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in someone to push Hugo Lloris for his number one spot (Daily Mail).

Spurs have been linked with several potential new options between the sticks, including the impressive England and Burnley shot-stopped, Pope (Football.London).

The England international, who has won his place back at Turf Moor, has been in brilliant form this campaign after playing second fiddle to Joe Hart for large parts of last season.

The Express now claims that Chelsea are long-term admirers of Pope, who is one of the candidates they want to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, it is revealed that Lilywhites now hope to hijack the Blues’ pursuit of the Burnley star after Jose Mourinho himself identified him as a target.

Spurs Web Opinion

Personally, I would be happy to stick with Lloris as our number one for next season but I suspect that Jose Mourinho doesn’t trust Paulo Gazzaniga. With Michel Vorm also set to leave at the end of the season, I expect us to sign a goalkeeper in the summer. The question is whether we will go for someone who can compete with Lloris for the number one spot or someone who can just be an upgrade on Gazzaniga.
