Report: Spurs ready to offer €30m for Ligue 1 defender

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to offer Lille €30million (£27million) for the services of Gabriel Magalhaes, according to a report in Fichajes (as translated by Sport Witness).

Magalhaes has established himself has a regular in Christophe Galtier’s side this season and won many admirers with his consistent displays for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Spurs, Everton, and Arsenal were all linked with a move for the Brazilian during the January transfer window (Independent), with the Toffees being established as the favourites to land him this summer (Daily Mail).

Foot Mercato claimed last week that Spurs were trying to hijack Napoli’s deal for the centre-back this summer.

Fichajes suggests that the North Londoners are willing to offer €30million (£27million) to sign the young defender, an amount Lille are prepared said to be willing to sell him for.

The report reveals that Jose Mourinho is spearheading Spurs’ approach for the Lille star and views him as the ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

I am not really surprised to see us linked with multiple Lille players as Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos will have insights into their squad. Magalhaes, being comfortable playing on the left-hand side, will be a like-for-like replacement for Vertonghen. However, it looks like we would have to beat out competition from several clubs around Europe to land the 22-year-old.
