Report: Spurs ready to offer midfielder a new contract

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to reward young midfielder Oliver Skipp with a new contract.

Football Insider reports that the midfielder has impressed those at the club with the progress he’s made over the last two years and is now set to earn a new deal for his efforts.

The 19-year-old has been in and around the Tottenham first team for the last couple of seasons and put in some decent displays when he was given opportunities towards the end of last campaign.

The academy graduate was handed a rare start by Jose Mourinho in the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Norwich City on Wednesday and was praised by the Spurs boss for his display, despite the Lilywhites being knocked out of the competition on penalties (Football.London).

Football Insider claims Mourinho has been left extremely impressed by what he has seen of the teenager so far, which is said to be one of the reasons he gave the green light for Victor Wanyama to join Montreal Impact on a free transfer earlier this week.

Skipp’s current deal with the club expires in the summer of 2021 and talks are expected to begin on a new contract soon.

Spurs Web Opinion

The most impressive element of Skipp’s game is that he seems to have maturity well beyond his age. His reading of the game, composure on the ball and ability to make the right decisions in tight situations reminds me a lot of Scott Parker. Let’s hope he continues to improve and establishes himself in the side next season.
