Report: Spurs ready to ‘step up’ pursuit of £15m target after signing Perisic

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to step up their attempts to sign Djed Spence after completing the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

Spence has enjoyed an outstanding campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough, with the youngster playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the top flight after they beat Huddersfield Town in the Playoff final on Sunday.

It was reported on Sky Sports’ transfer centre (30/05/22 at 10:55 am) that Forest were keen on snapping up Spence on a permanent deal after winning promotion to the Premier League.

This has now been backed up by The Telegraph, who state that Steve Cooper’s side are ready to battle Spurs for the 21-year-old’s signature.

The report alleges that Antonio Conte’s men will step up their attempts to land Spence in a £15m deal but Forest are said to be hopeful the prospect of regular game time at the City Ground next season will outweigh the appeal of being a squad player at a Champions League club.

I believe Spence can have reasonable confidence that he will be more than just a squad player at Tottenham next season. The 21-year-old certainly has the required attributes to thrive at right wing-back and he does not have major competition for that role at Spurs.
