Report: Spurs receive Champions League boost for the January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur are through to the Champions League knockout stages once again this year, making it the third season in a row they have achieved this.

Last year, they were drawn against then Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, whereas this time they come up against the current German leaders RB Leipzig.

Jose Mourinho has no yet been able to make his mark on the Spurs squad that he inherited from Mauricio Pochettino, with the January transfer window providing the perfect chance.

Historically, if any player signed in January had already played a Champions League fixture with another club this season, they would not be able to feature for Tottenham.

For example, if Spurs went out and signed Dybala, he would have been cup-tied due to his involvement in the group stage with Juventus.

However, that rule has now gone out of the window, meaning Spurs and Mourinho will have free reign of who they sign and who they add to their Champions League squad (Football London).

Who would you like to see Spurs sign in January?
