Report: Spurs receive encouragement to complete £15m summer transfer

Sky Deutschland have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Timo Werner permanently as the player is not keen on returning to RB Leipzig in the summer.

Over the last couple of weeks, various outlets have talked up the chances of Werner staying put at Tottenham beyond the end of the season.

This includes an update by Dean Jones, who wrote in his column on Sports Lens earlier this month that the staff at Hotspur Way have been quite impressed with the way the forward has conducted himself on and off the pitch so far.

Jones revealed that his sources at Spurs have indicated that the club plan on activating the £15m option to buy Werner permanently at the end of the season.

Florian Plettenberg then claimed earlier this week that the 28-year-old wants to stay in North London as he feels quite comfortable in his new surroundings.

Timo Werner wants to stay at Spurs

Sky Deutschland have now reported something similar, stating that Werner is loving life in London and that Tottenham have been given encouragement to activate the clause.

In fact, the outlet asserts that the forward has ‘no future’ at the Red Bull Arena and is not keen on returning to the Bundesliga side.

The publication adds that even though Werner is contracted to Leipzig until 2026, both parties want to permanently cut ties in the summer, with the German club keen to get the player off their wage bill.

This transfer appears quite certain to go through, given the modest fee involved. Even if Werner is perhaps not good enough to be a regular starter for Tottenham, he will be a useful squad player to have, especially if Postecoglou’s men are to compete on multiple fronts next season.
