Report: Spurs ‘recently’ enquired about German coach – Expected to leave club soon

According to the print edition of SportBILD (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur made an enquiry about PSV Eindhoven manager Roger Schmidt.

There has been quite a lot of managerial turnover at Spurs over the last couple of years.

After Mauricio Pochettino was sacked for a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign, the club’s Jose Mourinho experiment backfired, with the Lilywhites failing to finish in the top six last season for the first time in over a decade.

Spurs were linked with a whole host of names during the summer before eventually deciding to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo.

The former Wolves boss was relieved of his duties this week after just four months in charge of the club, with Antonio Conte now taking over the reins.

The Tottenham hierarchy will be hoping they have finally found the right man in Conte to take the club back to challenging for major honours.

SportBILD have now claimed that Schmidt was another option on the Lilywhites’ radar. The report says that the German is a name ‘on the lips’ of many clubs and is likely to leave the Philips Stadium when his contract runs out at the end of this season.

The 54-year-old is thought to be keen on a move to either the Premier League or La Liga. It is asserted that Spurs and Everton both enquired about Schmidt’s availability ‘recently’ but the report does not specify when exactly the enquiry came.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would imagine that the enquiry from Spurs for Schmidt came in the summer (if one came at all) as that is when we were being linked with almost every half-decent manager in Europe.
